Konami was on fire during the early years of the Game Boy, and produced a string of hits such as Operation C / Contra, Nemesis, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan and Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs' Big Break.

The latter title is currently being redeveloped as an unofficial 'DX' update for Game Boy Color by French translator and hacker Brand Newman, which pleases me massively as it remains one of the favourite Game Boy releases.

Back in 1996, the Game Boy was on the cusp of a late-life resurgence. Nintendo refreshed the monochrome portable with the Game Boy Pocket, and, on the same day in Japan, it released Mole Mania, a title produced by none other than Shigeru Miyamoto.

Considered to be something of a 'forgotten' classic on the system (although it has become pretty well-known in recent years), Mole Mania is an action puzzler starring Muddy, a mole who is capable of digging into the earth in order to overcome obstacles.

Earlier this year, Limited Run Games, Retro-Bit and Randell Linden announced that a new rumble-ready controller is to be released for the SNES to coincide with Linden's updated 16-bit port of DOOM.

If you've ever wanted to play Squaresoft's Final Fantasy Legend games on your Game Boy with colourized visuals, then you're in luck.

Three new ROM hacks have just been released that bring the monochrome graphics of the three classic titles into colour, giving the game a slightly more eye-popping aesthetic. After over 10 years of development, a remake of Mother / EarthBound Beginnings built inside the cult classic SNES title EarthBound is finally "nearing completion", according to a new trailer published during last weekend's Free Fangame Festival (F3).

Earthbound Beginnings Remake originally started life back in 2007 under the name EarthBound Zero, and is a ROM hack designed to recreate the 1989 title Mother / Earthbound Beginnings in the style of its 16-bit sequel.

Update #2 : Two years after the release of Celeste Mario's Zap & Dash!, its creator w7n and co. have just released a new "Deluxe" update, bringing a whole host of amazing new additions to the ambitious crossover hack.

A new ROM hack has just been released for Konami's 1993 Game Boy title Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Montana's Movie Madness that aims to bring the US/European versions of the game more in line with its less challenging Japanese counterpart.

Update : KurkoMods has revealed the release date for his long-awaited Banjo Kazooie mod "Banjo Kazooie: Nostalgia 64" after "much blood, sweat, and tears".

According to the creator, the mod will be available to his Patreon backers on May 7th, before releasing to the wider public on May 17th. The Star Fox ROM hacker SunlitSpace has recently revealed a huge, new update to one of their earliest hacks, incorporating new graphics, redesigning several levels, and ironing out a bunch of lingering issues.

Sunlit’s Untitled Star Fox Minihack was originally built over the course of two days back in 2022, using the UltraStarFox source code as a base, and was released across various ROM Hacking sites that very same year. It gave players the ability to play through a special, newly designed route that featured 6 levels (5 of which were remixes based on existing locations from the original game, while the last was described as an entirely new planet).
