@Lorfarius Probably more to do with adding shipping into the cost. Hawaii and Alaska been dealing with that, long before tariffs on friendly countries was a thing.

Don't get me wrong....Namco Lightgun games are fine and all but if we are gonna recreate the lightgun games...it will be great to have the games from the pinnacle devs of lightgun shooters: Sega.

I dunno if I want to drop that kind of money without trying it first, the fact that there’s the reticle-latency “trail” effect is a real bummer and I need to test it. Maybe if if gets jailbroken so that we can add more games to it, like early Taito’s stuff (Op. Wolf..) or Point Blank 2/3, etc. If they had plans to sell more games it would’ve been a much easier decision…

Why is there packaging for Time Crisis 2 in the first picture if that game isn’t included in any of these packages?

This seems a good idea, but not worth the price in my opinion, especially how you’ll only get 4 games maximum, and even then you have to pay £150 or more to get all of them.

Thankfully I have a GunCon, PS1 and CRT so I can still play these (plus many other games) if I want to. And I can confirm that it isn’t 100% accurate all the time so might be similar in accuracy to this product.

Overall it's sounding pretty decent. I LOVE a good light gun game and severely lament how they all but disappeared with CRTs - I hooked a PS2 up to a CRT recently and the experience FAR surpassed the (pretty good) experience of using a Sinden with an emulator.

Nevertheless, happy to see this come out - especially as I've backed it - and looking forward to getting back into both Time Crisis and Point Blank. Whilst the model of having to buy new kit for new games might seen rather old fashioned as long as next time round they just sell a box without the guns I'd be pretty happy with that. All those Time Crisis, HOTD, Point Blank games ... as well as Virtua Cop, Ghost Squad, etc etc - currently languishing in inaccessible formats would be great to play again!

I'm fortunate enough to still own all G-con Light Guns and Time Crisis games but it's funny though as the very first Time Crisis will always be my favourite.

Sounds like they've done a pretty good job, the gun preferring to see the whole screen sounds like it could be a problem though.

A Deluxe Time Crisis 1 has a 52" rear projection screen and you'd hold the gun about 1.5 metres away from the screen on that. A 4:3 image displayed on a 65" 16:9 panel is about 53" diagonally, so needing to be 3 metres away seems too far compared to the distance on an actual machine.

It would be interesting to see how the AI gun handles an ultra-wide monitor, an ultra-wide might be ideal for playing two instances of Time Crisis 2 on one screen!

Probably jump in if there's ever a Sega edition - Virtua Cop of House of the Dead. I've just switched from a 20" CRT to a wide-screen 36", but the Xbox light gun won't function properly with it sadly.

In the preview videos it looked like the device was usable closer to the screen. Glad I didnt pre-order, because for a 65 inch screen 3m is FAR too much distance. I think with the old Deluxe cabinets the distance was around 1.2m or so. Thats a far more immersive experience than standing 3m away. And its not nitpicking, its how the game was designed.

I'm glad the response latency was mentioned. In my recent years of having a bit of "retro revival", going back and buying/playing games I never experienced back in the day, one of those categories has been the at-home light gun shooters. The Guncon and Guncon 2 feel phenomenal to use on a CRT. Accurate and responsive. The Guncon 3, using processing-laden camera-based tech for the Time Crisis games on PS3, does not feel nearly as good to play with.

Maybe one day I'll pick up the G'AIM'E, but I'll forever be spoiled by the minimal latency inherent in the old analog stuff.

It would be especially neat if they have a second iteration that could output two HDMI signals for a true Time Crisis 2/3 multiplayer experience where each player could have their own screen, just like in the arcade. Throw Vampire Knight and Ninja Assault on there while they're at it ...all Namco properties....and that would be quite a package.
